Why I Have a Lot of Kids

To contact us Click HERE
My husband's work has been slow so he has not worked at all this week.  Yikes!  I have to say though that I LOOOOOVE having hubby home.  He's my best friend and we have tons of fun with the kids together.  The last couple of days we've taken the van to get worked on and then hung out at fun places together. We FINALLY have our big van back and we are so relieved.  However, we are still looking to take the captain seats out and putting a bench in for the kids.  We need the extra seat belt and we need to separate our Aspergers kids so he is not right next to someone else.  We are gonna have baby Juliet be in between Chaz and Ryan. That should settle the issues we are having.

Today while I was holding baby Juliet, Charles and I were just commenting on how far we've come with how we think of babies.  It USED to be that babies were a ton of work and we couldn't wait till they got a bit bigger.  You know, like wanting them to hold their own bottle (if they can't nurse), be potty trained, dress themselves, make their own sandwich.  Ohhhhh, how things have changed.  Before having Juliet people were asking me if I was nervous at all.  I was nervous.  I was worried about the work of a baby again till I had her and then realized how truly easy it's become.  It gets easy when you've learned to put others above yourself.  When you've been changing diapers for 12 years without any breaks in between.  It gets easy when you realize that it actually gets harder in other ways as they grow older.  I wish I could take Chaz and Ryan back down to their baby years and just be happy with cuddling them and not wishing for them to grow up.  It's easier than having to correct issues of the heart.  I guess maybe simpler is the right word.  Ahhh... I love my babies.  People wonder why I have so many.  Well, when you love (almost) every day of your life because you are surrounded by cute and funny kids, it makes it hard to imagine being DONE.  Now, if I complain tomorrow about how hard life is, know that it's probably because the house got messy. AGAIN.

Actually, I'll just get the complaining out now.  Oh my gosh, the kids just had a hay day in this house.  We have been in and out so much that I can hardly keep up.  The boys got back from their 3 day camping trip and mama has to clean and put away all the clothes. It stinks like mud, smoke, and sweat.  Guys are just so sweet smelling, huh?  Don't ask if you can come over my house right now. I'll just say no.  Well, last night I went in the girl's room and asked them to just pick out the stuff they want to keep and I'll throw out the rest.  They literally picked only five items to keep.  I insisted we keep all costumes because I KNOW they love to play in them even though it wasn't the items they picked. The rest went into the donation bag.  This is gonna be done in every room.

Kyle Turns Nine:10 Hour Birthday Fun!

Kyle turned 9!  We have three birthdays in the month of August and two in September so we have more coming.  Each kid got to choose what they wanted and Kyle picked his favorite place.  While we were in the fun place another dust storm hit.  Glad we were indoors!  Kyle picked his best friend to come along and we spent... get this... 10 hours there.  We were there longer some the workers shifts.  It cost a lot to go there and we weren't gonna waste it by staying only a couple of hours.  It's a huge place for the kids and they have a fantastic buffet.  I forgot my camera so I had to take pictures with my cell phone.  It's not nearly as good quality but oh well.

Caleb was limited on what he could ride and I couldn't really explain to him why he couldn't ride on everything.  However, he did get to be passenger in some rides which made his day.

The kids above are friend Jeremiah, Ryan, Ivy, and Ashley

I have several pictures of each kid on this exact ride around this age.  So cute.

Caleb loved the train!

Above: Okay, so Caleb decided he wanted to play miniature golf.  That last about 5 minutes and then I had to go return his ball and club.

Ryan is a good big brother taking Caleb on some rides.  Caleb got really dizzy on this one.  It was funny watching him trying to get off.  Below he had Caleb as a passenger.  I was playing with the camera feature on my cell phone so all four cars are the same one.  Couldn't get a clear picture.

Ashley is such a presenter and poser!  Ha ha.  Ivy loooves to conquer new rock climbing walls and she gets to the top on every one.  So far she's climbed three different ones and will do it over and over. She's so adventurous.
Above: We had been there for 10 hours and had to leave.  The workers actually let us stay an extra half hour after they closed.  The kids are standing by the Laser Tag room in this picture.  They are so goofy.  Notice Kyle on the far left on the ground.

Ashley and Ivy on the roller coaster.  I rode on this ride with them and I could barely walk when I got off.  LOL.

Large Families Need a Party Bus

We must really love our big van because every time we turn around there is something else we have to do for it.  Yesterday we spent most of the day just trying to get new tires on it.  Turns out, the ones we had on it weren't even designed for the weight of our van and so it explains why we constantly had to replace them.  This time we paid a lot more money to get really good tires.  While Charles was looking at the van my parents came over and visited for a bit.  My kids love their Nana and Papa.  Do I wish we had a bigger van? Yes, we desperately need one.  However, we are learning that in life you sometimes have to wait rather than rush into debt to get what you want.  We did that in the past and paid dearly for it.  Now, we are trying to do things the right way because we learned the hard way.
Well, the girls' costumes were ordered for their dance recital coming up in November.  I'm super excited but nervous at the same time.  Before signing the girls up I asked the teacher if there would be any modern dancing in it.  I am only doing this for tap and ballet but I only wanted classical ballet.  We shall see.  The parents can't see what their kids are doing in class.  They are still learning the basics and how to be flexible.  Ivy has been working really hard and can do the splits in the air now. They are so cute.  My living room has turned into a gym room as they are always practicing.  Ivy asked me for about 3 years now if she could do ballet.  I wondered if she would actually like it once she started but so far she absolutely loves it and counts down the days to the next practice.  Ashley was easy to figure out because she was always fluttering around the house.
So much happened in the month of August!  It is a very, very busy month for us!  Cars breaking down, I become a mom to a preteen (Chaz), My kids are asked to be featured in photos for the science center, kids start school,  Ivy gets taken by ambulance to the burn ward, girls start ballet lessons, the kids learn how to make their own rockets, Ryan has a birthday at a fun trampoline place, I make a major change to switch the babies to cloth diapers. While boys are away camping the girls went bowling, the boys join band in school, and Kyle turns 9.  Wow!  That's a lot to happen in just one month but we that's why I love our family!  We have so many adventures together and don't like to be apart for very long.  I feel like we need our own party bus.  Ha ha.  I'm thinking about getting a bumper sticker that says something like "This is our party bus."

Today we are going back to the Kroc center where the kids go swimming.  We haven't gone since Ivy got burned because she wasn't allowed to get her bandage wet.  Well, our recent visit to the burn ward said she is healed and now we just have to make sure it's not exposed to the sun.  Well, the Kroc center has an indoor water park so that's perfect for us!  I love going during the day while all the other kids are in school because it's so quiet there.

It's hard to not constantly want to find fun activities for my kids. Seeing them be adventurous and enjoy everything in the city makes my heart joyous.  It's so neat to look at the world through their eyes.  This month my kids will be dissecting an octopus at the science center. I decided this time it'll just be the older boys so the little ones aren't being distracting.  We'll go around and experience everything in the center.  I don't really want to smell the dead octopus anyway.  Heh heh... Yesterday we were heading somewhere with the kids and when I had to stop for gas Ryan mentioned he wanted to clean the windows.  It's so much easier to just say "No, no, no" all the time but I remember what it was like to be a kid.  Charles said it's scary how much I remember.  Feelings, smells (remember onions to a kid?), how the world looked from the view of a child.  Sometimes it's easier to constantly say no to kids because it's just easier.  I went ahead and let Ryan which made it take longer to leave the gas station but I got clean windows out of it and Ryan was happy.  I have to remember that when kids ask to help, I should be careful to not always say no.  Their teen years are coming after all and I'm not sure they'll be so quick to volunteer.  :D  I remember one time offering to wash the dishes when I was a kid. When a relative saw I wasn't doing the best job, they told me not even to bother.  So I didn't.  I never volunteered again.

I found this awesome site (Great Products) that sells some really cool products.  I ordered three shirts from them and plan on getting several more.  They are not telling me to write this, I just love the site and wanted to share.  :D  Here are the three shirts I ordered so far since they are having a major sale on them.  I ordered them according to personality.  Kyle loves rock music, Ryan's always trying to act like a ninja and Chaz likes zombies even though we don't let him watch those kinds of movies.  LOL.

I really want them to make a bumper sticker that shows a bunch of kids or something and says, "This is OUR party bus."  From the oustside you can hear music, kids laughing, singing, and mommy and daddy trying to talk over the noise.

Surgery Scheduled for Caleb

This time in our life has been such an incredible challenge.  Just when things look up I feel like my feet get kicked out from under me.  I have to keep getting back up though because I have a life to live, kids to love and care for, a best friend to have fun with, a husband that is amazing, a ministry to serve, and so much more.  God has somehow brought us through.  I'm amazed.

Several days ago Caleb was having trouble going potty so we had to take him into the ER.  He was screaming and nothing would come out.  He would have bright red blood in his diaper.  Turns out, he needs to have a dilation done as it's very difficult for him to go and getting worse from irritation.  They don't want him potty training at all until he's healed and it's approved by the doctor.  He's scheduled for surgery on Wednesday.  It was Caleb's 3rd birthday when we brought him into the ER.  Thankfully, that day we had a fun day with him by taking him out and letting him pick out a toy.  I'm just sad it had to end bad but he's getting help so that's good.  Chaz will be getting an EKG soon to make sure everything is okay.  He's complained about chest pains and his heart pounding even when he's resting.  I'm gonna wait till we get done with Caleb's surgery so we can focus on that first.
Happy birthday, Caleb!

Ewwww.....
Well, this place kindly gave me two lobsters to bring home and cook.  I NEVER buy them and thought maybe it'd be easy.  Well, I unwrapped them at home and couldn't believe what I saw...  Yuck!   It had eyeballs and everything.  I had thought maybe they gave me parts, I don't know.  Now I know why I never buy these because they are so gross looking.  I was being a total wimp and asked my husband to put it in a pot for me.  We looked up a video online on how to cut apart a cooked lobster.  By the time it was done I'd gotten over my fear of these mini monsters and we ate it just fine. Still, I won't be buying one of those anytime soon.

Wildwood 2012

This past week we took our annual trip to Wildwood. We had an amazing time! Thank you SO much to Uncle Jim, Nick and Jen at the Acropolis for having us again this year! We were lucky enough to share our vacation with MomMom, PopPop, Crackers and Uncle John. As I tell all parents of young kids, I don't recommend taking family vacations without grandparents to help ;)

Checking out the beach as soon as we arrived.
First dip in the ocean for the year. They loved it just as much as last year!
Our little diva taking a "fudgie wudgie" break.
My birthday fell on our first day of vacation so we celebrated at a super fun restaurant/ice cream parlor/mini golf course called Duffer's. It had a train that ran around the ceiling of the restaurant that Charlie loved and the most humongous ice cream sundaes ever.

This picture makes me laugh every time I see it.
Happy birthday to me!
First attempt at mini golf.
Relaxing with Daddy and the Cookie Thief iPad book before starting another busy day.

Say what you will about mini vans, but can your sedan fit six full-grown adults, two preschoolers in car seats, a double stroller and beach gear?! ;)

The hotel pool is always a hit! And this year I invested in Puddle Jumpers for Charlie and Lily, which totally changed our lives. They can "swim" around all on their own!
Chilling with MomMom.
Lunch on the hotel room deck after a busy morning at the pool.
We rode bikes on the boardwalk every morning before breakfast, and we spent two evenings there doing the rides. Wildwood has the best boardwalk, and it was just a few blocks from our hotel. I also ran their every morning too, although I don't think it did much to counteract the affects of the ice cream, fudge, caramel corn...
Showing off their airbrush tattoos - matching kitties. We tried to talk Charlie into the turtle or fish, but he insisted on the kitty cat. With gold glitter. Lol.

Charlie and Lily loved visiting their grandparents in their rooms every day. They'd march right down the walk and let themselves into the rooms.
Hotels are fun!
We had to stop on our bike ride one morning to see the "giant beach balls."

Another day in the sand.

We went to a pirate dinner show one evening. The show was kind of lame and the food was pretty bad, but it was affordable and right on the beach, which was really nice. And Charlie and Lily got to meet some parrots!

We ended our trip with a stop at the Cape May zoo on our way home. There were lots of animals to see but Charlie and Lily were more interested in riding the carousel and train and playing on the playground.
Roar!

We didn't really buy any souvenirs on our trip, but I couldn't resist this lifeguard sweatshirt for Charlie. How cute does he look in it?!?

And Lily got a "Call Me Maybe" shirt in honor of her current favorite song ;)
